STUDY TASK 1- MY SUMMER EXPERIENCE
This summer i spent the first portion back home in Bath, the change of scene was refreshing. It is a big contrast from city life as i was surrounded by countryside and very different Architecture. I worked at the number 1 Royal Crescent a museum in Bath, as the person at the front of house, this gave me the opportunity to talk to many people from around the world. i also feel like i learnt a lot about communicating with a language barrier. I attended Gottwood festival and Boomtown festival where i met lots of new people and was inspired the ammount of effort that had gone its artwork and stages. i went on a family holiday to portugal and stayed in the art district in an old fortress. The surroundings were inspiring and i took lots of photographs of the town we were staying in. i went to the modern art museum just outside of Lisbon and visited local artists in the art district working in studios next to my hotel. in the last part of my holiday i got a job in Tesco, this has taught me valuble lessons in teamwork and how a big corperation works. The insight has been useful as insight and has also been motivation for me to not end up in a dead end job, everyone i speak to has bigger dreams but they havent become a reality.

GRETA MADALINE
She graduated Leeds College of Art 3 years ago. The Kennedy's 7 people working together.
progression since leaving- she was depressed as it is hard to start out. she wasn't sure what she wanted to do. she started freelancing and then went to work for a little studio.
She lets her own interests feed into her work, she is obsessed with the colour gold and she lets that influence her. and it rubs off on people.
Most enjoyable project, podcasts, likes to challenge herself because it makes her grow as a person.
at her new place she is around really enthusiastic people all the time, she doesnt feel like university encouraged her to be creative enough.

Evaluation
In this module I have learnt a lot about myself and my work as reflecting on my work has been useful as it has made me more aware of my working and how to improve for the next time around. Also documenting my inspirations has been useful as it means I can look back on them in the future and incorporate them into my work . The sessions where visiting speakers came in to talk to us has been really helpful and motivating for me as it has given me a taste for the design world and helped me figure out the kind of work I would like to do myself.
I did not enjoy presenting in front of the class as it stressed me out a great deal but it was good for me to get out of my comfort zone and hopefully will help me progress and get more comfortable doing stuff like that which is a great skill to have.
My ambitions for level 5 is to continue an active search for current designers and studios that inspire me and hopefully even get in contact with them and start a conversation going for opportunities such as internships.

Build
We had talks with the design studio Build, a Leeds based studio originally from London.
The talked us through what they had done throughout their careers as well as their current work. I was really inspired by the lady who had worked for sony and worked on the design for the early playstation game Wipeout. The idea of working for a big well known company and having your work become so iconic is a dream for me. She also worked on stuff like the Japanese magazine Idea magazine. This style of graphic design is something I really like and would like to incorporate into my work. They were talking about how when they started off in the business it was pre commuter and stuff was done by hand including typography wich was done using Letraset. The work of Rod Clarke was also something that i really liked, I think the non computerised aesthetics were really interesting and is a way of working I would like to explore.

In oder to get my name out there I joined linkedin. In our session we have been told that its never to early to start getting yourself out there and talking to people in the industry. The page is a work in progress, I need to link my new identity onto it.
Time management
Creating a weekly timetable enabled me to structure my time and plan ahead in order to be more organised and productive. This weekly plan was around my whole life, not just work so I could work out my days. My problem is that I leave work until the very last minute so hopefully structuring my time will prevent this from happening.
After following this timetable for a week i found that i was less stressed as the workload wasn't piling up. I would like to try and plan out my future work in order to try and regulate the workload I am getting.

Stress Management
What scares you?
-faliure to complete workload
What stresses you out?
-my workload
What do you do to de stress?
-socialise with friends
-watch tv
What negative thought have you had today?
-I have so much work to do!
After Sharing our answers with the rest of the group I realised that everyones answers were pretty similar and we are all going through the same thing. This made me feel a bit more settled about the course and the workload because i know i am not alone when it gets tough!

Identity
Who am I, what do YOU see?
We did a task in which we passed around a sheet of paper writing down impressions we got of people.
People in my group said that I am:
-Approachable
-Like falafel
-Funny
-Chatty
-A good laugh
-Friendly
-Country girl
I think these statements are similar to how I perceive myself. These statements are positive things so I am happy with how people see me. in some ways these statements are slightly passive with means I am not perceived as a very individual person.
This task helped us make a personal connection to people where as in our day in age human contact is becoming more and more rare. Identity is what defines us and makes us stand out from the crowd.

Nest Magazine Submission
The theme for the issue was focus, so I made a gif of my dad taking photos, I felt like this fits the brief because he is shown focussing on something and capturing it. Putting my work forward for these submissions is good for my personal and professional practice because it gives me experience in the real world as a designer.

Mr Bingo
Mr Bingo started sending people hate mail in 2011, he is an illustrator by trade, but his love of postcards and a crude sense of humour has lead him to starting this franchise. His unique idea has brought him a large following and a very unique personal brand. He even made a rap about it.

Design strategy
The final presentation was titled 'Design Strategy' in which I presented what I've learnt this year upon reflecting, and examples of my work throughout the year. The presentation had to be 7 minutes long. I found this presentation much easier than the first one, partly because the subject matter was easier for me to talk about and also because I had come better prepared because the last presentation had scared me too much! After watching everyone else's presentations I was happy with how mine had gone, I had plenty of pictures to elaborate on the things i was talking about and not paragraphs of writing on the screen.
Self Branding
For our second studio brief we had to create a presentation about our self branding, including the concept through to the design and then the production. The presentation was infront of the whole class and i was extremely apprehensive to present. The presentation didn't go too well as i was too nervous and froze up and didn't explain things swell as I should have.
Concept
From the sessions about identity this helped me think about ideas for my personal branding. I ended up going with the simple approach of using my initials but putting it into my illustrative approach. and using the ideas from my poster and putting the items that I use to work into my identity. This illutratative style can be taken into all parts of the branding a changed up depending on what it is being used for.
Design
For the logo I drew it out myself as I feel my skills lie in handmade things and not on the computer. In my early design ideas I played around with using Futura as it is my personal favourite but it is also current and fresh and fits well with my illustrations. Sticking to my personal choices i used a colour scheme of black and greys as I use them a lot but they also are classy and work well for branding, but to stand out I added in a hot pink.
Production
Due to time restraints and for the purpose of the presentation i used mock ups to showcase my 3 design ideas.
